Born on Oahu, Hawai’i, June 8, 1968

Haunani Hess is a self-taught Native Hawaiian visual artist with an interior design background. Her work has evolved from years of hands-on experience across multiple mediums. The use of a bright colour palette, dynamic brush strokes, and multi-faceted texture application, her paintings evoke the profusion and movement of textile surface patterns, contrasted by a gold line drawing of mountain silhouettes. She is also strongly influenced by collage and the use of collage as an added medium to her paintings.
